'Riverdale' Star KJ Apa Crashes Car After 14-Hours-Long Work Day, Studio Issues Statement
The Riverdale star reportedly fell asleep while driving home after 16 hours of work. At the time it was already past midnight and even though the drive home would’ve lasted about 45 minutes, it was enough for him to lose consciousness at the wheel.
Reports claimed he was rushed to the hospital but was soon released as he didn’t have any serious injuries.
However, his car is now completely inoperable, and the passenger side was destroyed when he crashed into a pole.
Warner Bros. producers denied Apa was taken to the hospital, saying he was just treated at the site of the accident.
Afterwards, le went home and the production company also allegedly sent additional medics to check up on his state, confirming he was totally Okay.
‘We want to address the claims that conditions on the set of Riverdale are of concern. We have a large cast of regulars, and our actors don’t work every day. On the day of the accident, KJ worked 14.2 hours. The previous day he worked 2.5 hours, and the day before that he worked 7.7 hours,’ the statement read, also adding that KJ was informed he had the right to say if he was too tired and if so, he would have been driven to the closest hotel by staff so he could rest.
A source claimed Riverdale cast members often drive themselves from Vancouver to the suburbs where they shoot the series, and it takes at least an hour to get there.
Apparently, Luke Perry has been provided with transportation, but the younger stars haven’t.
Screen Actors Guild will be starting an investigation on the work conditions provided to the actors very soon, a rep announced.
