Riverdale Spin-Off Casts PLL Star Lucy Hale As Katy Keene

Lucy Hale just added another role to her growing resume. The Pretty Little Liars alum is set to play the new lead in the upcoming Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene. The CW just ordered a pilot for the series, which centers on four characters from the Archie Comics who are trying to start a career on Broadway.
The new role comes a year after Hale’s other series, Life Sentence, was canceled after its first season. The actress will play the part of Kate Keene in the musical drama, which takes place about a year following the events in Riverdale’s latest season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Katy is characterized as a young woman in her twenties who is looking to make it big in New York City as a fashion designer.
Michael Grassi and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa are writing the spin-off, while Greg Berlanti, Jon Goldwater, and Sarah Schechter are helping them with executive producer duties.
Apart from Katy, the spin-off will introduce two exciting characters from the comics in Jorge/Ginger Lopez and Pepper Smith. Julia Chan, who starred in Saving Hope, is playing the part of Pepper, while Jonny Beauchamp, from Penny Dreadful, will play Jorge.
The upcoming spin-off is the second of its kind for Riverdale. Netflix released the show’s first spin-off, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a series that was originally created by The CW.
Sabrina and Riverdale have enjoyed a few crossover moments, and it is unclear if we will see the same from the newest series.

The CW recently announced that Katy Keene will premiere sometime this fall or the early spring of 2020. That is, of course, assuming that The CW orders a full season after executives review the pilot episode.
Until then, fans can watch Season 3 of Riverdale Wednesday nights on The CW.
