Season 3 of Riverdale is officially underway on The CW and a lot has changed now that Archie (KJ Apa) is on the hook for murder. With a full season still ahead, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently talked about Archie’s journey this season and what is ahead for Serpent Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch).
When it comes to Archie, Aguirre-Sacasa promised fans that “big changes” are ahead for the character. With Archie facing serious charges, Season 3 will see him examining everything he did last year and thinking about whether or not it was worth going over to the dark side.
“He’s trying to own his mistakes and reconcile his life with what he’s done,” Aguirre-Sacasa teased, adding that Archie will make more mistakes before he corrects things.
While we wait to see what becomes of Archie, Aguirre-Sacasa also dished on Cheryl’s story this season. Aguirre-Sacasa told Collider that Cheryl is one of his favorite characters to write because Petsch has incredible acting chops.
Although Cheryl is a Serpent this time around, the showrunner assured fans that she is not going to stop being the same old Cheryl we have seen the past two seasons. This includes her rocking some pretty amazing outfits, complete with her signature style and look. He also teased that Cheryl will bring some change to the Serpents, though he did not reveal too much on that front.
Apart from the upcoming season, Aguirre-Sacasa also confirmed the rumors that a spin-off is in the works.
Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that he is excited about expanding the Riverdale universe and that an announcement will be made over the next few weeks. We do not know any details about the spin-off, but it sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
New episodes of Riverdale air Wednesday nights on The CW.
