As someone who was born and raised on an island and grew up to amass unbending success as a fashion icon, music superstar, and shrewd businesswoman, it’s unsurprising that Rihanna will be honored with a street bearing her name.
The lasting landmark will be erected on her home island of Barbados. Some may assume that this is simply a way of recognizing an individual that has come from that region and went on to become a global superstar. But actually, the reason Rihanna is being honored in such a way is because of her philanthropic efforts.
She has done consistent, and not always publicised, charitable work in that region.
The prime minister of the island, Freundel Stuart will present Rihanna with the street during an unveiling that will occur on Barbados’ 51st Independence Day, November 30.
The official statement was released by The Ministry of Tourism and says:
“The Government of Barbados will be on Independence Day, Thursday 30th November 2017 officially change the name of Westbury New Road located in St. Michael to Rihanna Drive in honor of Barbadian superstar Ms. Robyn Rihanna Fenty who grew up in Westbury New Road.”
Rihanna’s career has been a stellar thing to witness as she’s managed to become a pop superstar queen while also dominating and capitalizing in other industries as well. Her last album, Anti, was a musical departure from what she typically does.
That sound and vibe switch didn’t seem to stop her pop star momentum as this 8th studio album has done better in 2017, than in 2016 when it debuted. It’s also one of the most successful albums to have more than one song on the Dance charts for multiple consecutive weeks.
Rihanna has even recently taken up acting. She played a character in the TV show, Bates Motel and has a prominent role in the female lead Ocean’s Eight.
She has also recently had two highly successful business ventures, one in the fashion word collaborating with Puma and one in the makeup industry with the launch of Fenty Beauty.
The superstar is undoubtedly making her mark in a myriad of ways and will go down in history as a bonafide legend.
