Reports Of Idris Elba Casting In New James Bond Movie Are "Fake News" Says His Representative
Recently, a number of different publications claimed that Idris Elba was in talks for joining the next James Bond movies, and fans were elated at the announcement.
Ever since Craig revealed he didn't want to portray 007 anymore, fans of the series stated that Idris would be a great replacement, and he'd also be the first African-American to take the titular role.
However, unfortunately for Mr. Elba's fans, the rumors are just that: rumors. Previously, publications claimed that the director, Antoine Fuqua, along with Barbara Broccoli, the main producer, stated it was time for a black man to portray James Bond.
But a representative for Fuqua stated this conversation actually never happened. Thus far, nobody on Elba's team has acknowledged the rumors, and a source close to his reps say that he hasn't even heard about it yet.
So, it looks like fans are going to have to wait and see who will arrive at the helm of James Bond in the next films. Unfortunately, it won't be Mr. Elba. If Idris was to take the role, he would be around 50-years-old.
That doesn't mean, however, that Elba would be too old to play the British secret agent, considering Tom Cruise just finished another installment of Mission Impossible and Daniel Craig will be 50-years-old during the filming of the next Bond film.
The next movie hits theaters next year in November, and Danny Boyle is directing the script written by John Hodge. It isn't exactly clear as to what the new movie will entail, but Daniel Craig has vehemently announced his intention to finish with the franchise after the movie in 2019 is released.
As for who will be James Bond next remains to be seen. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report that it won't be Mr. Elba, unfortunately. Daniel Craig and his wife, Rachel Weisz, announced they were having a child together back in April , so the addition to their family may have played a role in the actor's decision.
