Rapper Jon James McMurray has passed away at the age of 34 on the 20th of October following a video shoot for one of his songs. A statement released by his team stated that Jon had a passion to perform stunts that were in an entirely new direction.
His management team stated, “he died filming for a project he had been working on for months.” One of his stunts included walking along an airplane wing and rapping at the same time.
McMurray’s team stated that he died because he was walking down the wing and the pilot lost control of the plane, because of a loss of balance due to the disproportionate weight on one side.
By the time Jon let go of the wing, he didn’t have time to open his parachute and then died instantly upon impact. In memoriam of the later rapper, everyone in his team praised Jon’s ability to fill the room with positivity and added that he rarely talked badly about other people.
Sources close to the rapper explained, “Jon was really a good person and he would want to be remembered as someone who promoted each and every individual to pursue their dreams. That message was littered throughout his music.”
Jon left behind his wife, Kali James, and his parents Jen McMurray, as well as Doug McMurray, and his brother, Jared. A GoFundMe page was created in his honor to help raise money for distributing some of his content and helping his family.
Jon won’t be the first musician to die in an airplane crash. The founding members of Lynyrd Skynyrd died in a plane crash in the 1970’s, as did the R & B legend, Aaliyah.
The original members of the country-rock band died in an airplane crash in 1977, and the band subsequently went on a long hiatus, before finally reuniting at a later date with new members.
Aaliyah, on the other hand, died tragically on the 25th of August in 2001 when she was just 21-years-old. Reportedly, Aaliyah never wanted to go to the Bahamas to film the music video. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jon James McMurray.
