Looks like Fergie isn’t the only one to flunk out during a performance of the National Anthem. Rachel was supposed to sing the Star-Spangled Banner while at the match between the Chicago Red Stars and the Utah Ryals, however, it didn’t pan out the way she expected.
Platten claimed that she fumbled through the anthem because her mind simply went blank. Clearly, she must’ve been nervous, as Platten first made a mistake while singing the beginning verse, and then, later on, had to get encouragement from fans in the stands as she forgot another part.
A couple of days later, Platten admitted she’s “having a hard time” letting go of what happened. It was a big screw-up, and the whole world watched it.
She explained, “the anthem is such a big deal; it’s probably the most important song for our country.” Because of its significance symbolically, the singer admitted she was nervous, for fear of messing it up.
The song is of the utmost importance to a lot of people, so the pressure is sometimes too much to bear. She later took to Twitter once again apologize.
There is a silver lining to all of this. When speaking with People Magazine, Rachel said she was glad that she could at least finish the song.
Thankfully, Rachel has a really nice husband who was able to put it all in perspective for her.
He explained that people mess up at their jobs nearly every single day and many times over the course of their career, and not one person notices or cares. However, for Rachel, her job is in front of 18,000 people, making the stakes tremendously higher.
