The Vampire Diaries actress Phoebe Tonkin has something to celebrate this holiday season. She’s recently been cast in the adult dramatic thriller, The Affair, which airs on Showtime.
Tonkin has played Haley Marshall on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals for over 6 years and now she’s gearing up for a totally different role and change of pace. She’ll play the assistant of a character that has a somewhat sorted past with Cole, who is played by Joshua Jackson.
Fans are speculating whether this means that Cole and Tonkin’s character may become romantically involved, though the information that has been provided thus far doesn’t give enough details to say for sure.
The show, which will be entering into its fourth season, is about the specific fallout that occurs when two people have an affair.
The original characters that have been followed throughout the duration of the show have been Cole and Alison, played by Ruth Wilson, Noah, played by Dominic West, and Helen, played by Maura Tierney.
According to creator Sarah Treem, there will be an exploration of the separate lives of all the characters much more so than there has ever been before. Treem is also having to do a big revamp as a fourth season wasn’t originally in her plans.
So she’s had to embark on a journey of creativity to incorporate new storylines and new characters into the overarching framework of the show.
It appears that the way the characters stories were so continually intertwined will be much different this time around. We’ll see how all of that plays out and where these characters will find themselves. Along with Tonkin, the show introduces new characters played by Amy Irving and Sanaa Lathan.
The first couple seasons of the show lead to critical acclaim and while there were many more negative critiques of the past season, it will be interesting to see how the lives of these four main characters continue to be shaped by their own sins and poor decisions that have been made over the course of the series.
The show airs on Sunday nights and will premiere sometime in mid-2018.
