Nearly a month after it was revealed that Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande were engaged, and he bought her a ring to make it official, Pete defended his choice to give her his father’s FDNY badge as a gift. The 24-year-old comedian posted a photo on Instagram on Saturday showing Scott Davidson’s badge on a necklace.
Scott was killed during the terrorist attacks on the 11th of September, 2001. Despite many of his fans respecting his decision to give her such a noble gift, some criticized him for it.
One person wrote, “I don’t think you should’ve given her such a meaningful gift like that. You don’t even know if it will last. You guys just randomly got engaged, and now you’re giving her a sentimental emblem like that? What’s wrong with you?”
Mr. Davidson said in response to another commenter, “for your information, that’s not just some girl,” it’s his fiancée. The comedian said it was his fiancée, the greatest person he has in his life. The Saturday Night Live star said his father would be immeasurably proud of him.
As for Grande, she responded to the photo with the comment, “I love you more than anything.” The badge has Scott’s badge number on it, 8418, the number that Ariana also got tattooed on her ankle as a tribute.
As it was previously reported, Ariana and Pete got engaged after just one month of dating. During an appearence on Jimmy Fallon, he said he feels like he “won a contest” – a weird thing to say, indeed.
However, others on social media think he is merely a rebound and a way for Ariana to get back at her ex-boyfriend, the rapper, Mac Miller.
Mac recently got arrested for DUI, and Ariana insinuated that he wasn’t keeping his life together. Grande previously said she didn’t want to babysit him.
