Fame is not always what is cracked up to be. In a new interview, actor Penn Badgley revealed that due to Gossip Girl becoming super popular, he has ‘literally been molested.’
The actor is best known for playing Dan Humphries on the show.
Penn talked to Daily Beast about all the disadvantages of being famous as well as being the object of someone’s obsession.
‘I think that as an actor you can become the object of desire, for people which is something that women are already accustomed to around the world—I have definitely been, I mean I do not want to sound sensationalist, but I have literally been molested—just in the literal sense of the word—by many people. Because that is what they do,’ the star told the outlet.
The publication mentioned that Badgley was cautious and hesitant to talk about the sensitive topic and that he was ‘quick to acknowledge the privilege that being a man, not to mention a white man, affords him.’
But he also talked about a very tricky double standard between the genders when it comes to sexual harassment.
‘You’re led as a man, particularly, [to believe] that when it happens, you should feel good about it. Especially when it comes from someone who is feasibly an object of your own desire as well. And I think that is the interesting thing about the show, is that Joe [his character in ‘You’] looks like me, acts and talks like me to a degree, so I believe the audience is supposed to be like, ‘Aw that might be nice if somebody was that infatuated with me.’’
