TV host and Outlander superfan Holly Willoughby couldn’t contain her excitement while interviewing Caitriona Balfe. While chatting with the Outlander star, Willoughby accidentally dropped a major spoiler about the coming 4th season — much to the astonishment of her co-host, Phillip Schofield.
It’s no secret that Willoughby loves Outlander and that interviewing Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser, was like a dream come true. Even still, Express reports that Willoughby couldn’t help butabout the new season, including a few tidbits about what happens with Jamie and his daughter Brianna and why some people can time travel while others cannot.
While Willoughby dropped some big spoilers about the new season, Schofield, who largely sat this interview out, finally had enough and hilariously told her that she is going to be in a lot of trouble for revealing what happens next season.
According to Entertainment Daily, fansto Willoughby’s spoilers on social media. Most fans were highly entertained watching Schofield’s reactions to Willoughby’s interview, while others said they would love to see a more in-depth chat between the two ladies.
Others, however, weren’t as happy about the spoilers, though Willoughby did warn viewers that spoilers were ahead. Even still, there’s no denying that Willoughby and Balfe’s interview was very amusing and offered fans a little extra following the Outlander Season 3 finale.
TV Over Mind reports that Season 3 of Outlander ended with Jamie and Claire getting washed up. More specifically, the couple will find themselves in Georgia at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War, which means there is going to be a lot of drama ahead. Although the main story will center on Jamie and Claire’s involvement in the war to gain independence, Brianna will also play a large part moving forward.
Those who have read Diana Gabaldon’s Drums of Autumn know that Brianna will make a huge decision in Season 4. Brianna’s journey, however, won’t be easy. When she does travel through the stones to reunite with her parents, Brianna will find herself in Scotland, half a world away from Jamie and Claire. Brianna will then need to find a way to America so that she can finally meet her real father.
This journey will likely play an important part in Season 4, though it isn’t clear how producers plan on adapting Gabaldon’s fourth book. With so much going on, the writers will have to start excluding certain storylines for the sake of time. This clearly won’t happen with Brianna, but we might see a truncated journey for her on the show as opposed to what happened in the books. Either way, we clearly have a lot to look forward to in the new season of Outlander, which is one reason why Willoughby couldn’t keep herself in check.
Starz has not released a specific premiere date for Season 4 of Outlander, though the network promised fans that it will be out sometime next year.
