Droughtlander is one of the worst times of the year for Outlander fans. With four or five months to wait until the series returns to Starz, getting through the next few months isn’t going to be easy. To help fans out, Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona recently offered a few tips on how to get through the remainder of Droughtlander without going crazy.
Tip #1: Don’t Neglect Everyday Activities
According to TV Guide, Balfe told fans not to forget about their usual responsibilities while waiting for Outlander to return for Season 4. Just because you are sad about not seeing Jamie and Claire hit it up on the small screens doesn’t mean you should neglect your usual chores around the house. “Feed your kids, feed yourself. Get out and go for a walk. Try not to let the house plants die,” Balfe told fans. Not only is this good advice, but performing your daily routine might distract you enough to forget that Outlander isn’t here yet.

Tip #2: Read Diana Gabaldon’s Books
There are only 3 seasons of Outlander that have been released, but Gabaldon has published 9 Outlander books so far. All of these books are available at your local library or book store, or you can read them on an e-reader. Whatever your method of getting them, burning through all 9 of Gabaldon’s books should eat up a lot of time. If you’ve already read them all, why not give them a second (or third) look through? You might want to pay special attention to the 4th book in the series, Drums of Autumn, which is what the next season is based on.
Tip #3: Binge Watch The Series
After you have finished your daily activities and read Gabaldon’s books, you should re-watch the first three seasons of Outlander. This will help you get your Outlander fix and refresh your memory of what is happening on the show. In fact, this is what Balfe recommends the most to help get you through Droughtlander.

Tip #4: Drink – A Lot
When all else fails, you can always turn to a little bit of alcohol to help you get through Droughtlander. With Jamie and Claire headed for America for Season 4, Heughan recommends going with a good bourbon instead of ale for those long nights without Outlander, as this will help “pass a few days away.” This method might not make the months go by faster, but it’ll help for short periods of time.
Starz has not announced an official premiere date for Season 4 of Outlander. The series is expected to return sometime in the fall, though Heughan teased that Droughtlander might not last as long as expected. Here’s to hoping for a late summer premiere.
Season 3 of Outlander is available to stream on Starz on demand and is out on DVD.
