Claire (Caitriona Balfe) has undergone plenty of changes throughout the first three seasons of Outlander. Between time traveling back and forth and her epic romance with Jamie (Sam Heughan), we’ve watched Claire go through a lot these past three years — and that isn’t going to change in Season 4. With filming almost a wrap, Balfe promised fans will see a completely new Claire this time around.
In Season 3, fans watched as Claire traveled back in time to reunite with Jamie, whom she thought was lost in the Battle of Culloden. After reuniting, the couple ventured on a new journey across the ocean that landed them in the New World.
Season 4 will pick up with Jamie and Claire establishing themselves in the American colonies, where the two will face an entirely new set of challenges.

According to Gold Derby, Balfe took time out of her busy schedule and talked about Claire’s story in Season 4. The actress assured fans that they will see “a very different side” of her character this season, including a “much more settled” and “nurturing side of her.”
Balfe added that she has thoroughly enjoyed filming this season because it feels so different than previous ones. She didn’t go into too many details, but she did tease that family and immigration will play an important part of the story.
Balfe and the rest of the Outlander crew are currently hard at work filming Season 4 in Scotland. The cast and crew have been working for months on location and production should be a wrap within a few weeks. Although Starz renewed the series for a fifth season, production will not get underway until sometime next year.

While a lot of changes are ahead for Jamie and Claire, fans are wondering how many familiar faces will pop up in the upcoming season. In particular, there is growing interest in seeing Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) return to the series in the near future.
Nothing official has been confirmed, though executive producer Maril Davis recently teased that we may not have seen the last of Frank. This opens the possibility of Frank appearing in a flashback in coming seasons, just like the character does in the books.
Starz has not announced an official premiere date for the upcoming season of Outlander. Season 4 is based on the fourth book in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling series, Drums of Autumn.
