One of the biggest storylines in Season 4 of Outlander is Brianna’s (Sophie Skelton) journey back in time to reunite with her parents, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).
Most fans assumed that Brianna will travel back in time because she misses her parents, but a new twist in the story may have given her a different reason to leave the 1960s — and it has everything to do with her romance with Roger (Richard Rankin).
Last week’s episode of Outlander featured Brianna’s return to the small screens. Everyone’s favorite fiery redhead attended a Scottish festival with Roger in North Carolina, but the outing ended in disaster after the two brought up the subject of sex.
Brianna tried to bed Roger, but he rejected the offer. Instead, he told her that he wanted to marry her before they slept together. Brianna did not like the proposal and told Roger she was not ready to become his wife.
The fight comes right before Brianna is expected to travel back in time to reunite with Jamie and Claire. According to Express, it is possible that her drama with Roger is what sparks her desire to find her parents.
Unfortunately, the series has not revealed when Brianna will be walking through the Standing Stones. But if she does time travel in the next few episodes, it makes sense that a falling out with Roger is what ignites her passion to leave her world behind.
If Brianna leaves without making things right with Roger, he will likely want to follow her at all costs. This could be how Roger finds himself going back in time. It would also make for a great reunion between him and Brianna later this season.
The next episode of Outlander, which airs Sunday night on Starz, will continue to explore Jamie and Claire’s story as they establish roots in the American colonies.
