The wait is almost over! After fourteen agonizing months, fans of the Starz time travel drama Outlander will finally get some answers about what happened to Jamie ( Sam Heughan ) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).

According to USA Today , diehard fans of the show have called the wait between seasons, droughtlander.

What can fans expect from the upcoming season? With all the time travel, it can be hard to remember what was going on, and where it was happening.

At the end of season two, Claire found out from Roger, Reverend Wakefield’s adopted son, that Jamie did, in fact, survive the 1746 Battle of Culloden.  So, when season three starts he is alive, but that doesn’t mean he is safe and everything is ok.

Heughan told USA Today that “He’s lost everything he loves: his unborn child, family, close friends, and allies. He really changes his personality this season, becomes many different people. He doesn’t really want to be Jamie Fraser anymore. (He) Essentially wants to die, and takes many things to realize it’s not worth it. It's very epic."

Meanwhile, things aren’t going well for Claire, either. She returns to 1948 and moves to Boston with her husband Frank, but pregnant with Jamie’s baby. She is no longer a war nurse, and Jamie has been left in the past. And for Claire, it’s torture.

As for Jamie and Claire’s daughter, Brianna, she is in 1968 and 20 years old. While living in Scotland, she comes across Geillis Duncan (who now goes by Gillian Edgars). But, the last time we saw Geillis at the end of season two, she was at her witch trial. Confused yet?

Jamie’s sister Jenny and her husband Ian were left at the Fraser family estate. They were joined by Fergus Fraser, who was sent back by Jamie with a deed that transferred ownership of the estate to Jenny and Ian. They hope to survive the British occupation that is coming after the Battle of Culloden.

Finally, Colum and Dougal Mackenzie are now gone. So is Angus Mhor. They were all three killed at the end of last season. Which means there will be new characters to keep up with in this time traveling epic.

This season will be based on the third book, Voyager , from the Diana Gabaldon series.

Season three premieres Sunday, September 10th at 8 pm on Starz, check out a preview below.
