An NYC cab driver is convicted guilty of attempting to steal John Legend’s luggage outside the airport and is facing up to seven years in prison. The driver, 64, Agustin Hilario, is charged with possession of stolen property after he took a Louis Vuitton bag which belonged to John and his wife, Chrissy Teigen.
The Associated Press claims the suitcase contained $25,000 Cartier cufflinks among other precious valuables. Celebrity Insider reported last year that the cab driver took the bag off the cart at the airport and was identified in security footage not long after.
Page Six claims the singer said in court that the cufflinks were a gift to him from his pregnant wife, Teigen.
Additionally, the luggage without its contents is valued at $3,000. Hilario said to the police afterward he “made a mistake” and knew he shouldn’t have taken it.
Perhaps, he should’ve been more cautious because – as it was mentioned at the beginning of the article – he now faces a sentence of possibly seven years. He has his day in court on the 12th of March.
Following the theft, Legend went on social media to indicate that the couple’s car service driver was not the one responsible. John and his wife stated they used a “trusted car service” and it wasn’t them who robbed them.
It was taken by a cab driver after they left it unattended. The airport police found the man who stole it and had it returned. It worked out for John and his wife after all.
In other news, Legend, 39, is set to play the starring role in NBC’s upcoming musical, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. Him and his 32-year-old wife, Teigen, share a 22-month old child, Luna, and are currently expecting another baby – a boy.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres show, Chrissy stated she and her husband were struggling to come up with a name for their next baby. Chrissy said, “boy’s names are tough.” She also revealed that her baby was due in June of this year, 2018.
