A festival that Nicki Minaj was supposed to headline in China during the past weekend seemed to have been a scam. Here are the details on what happened.
She reportedly flew to Shanghai in order to perform a 90-minute set at Djakarta Warehouse Project China festival on Sunday, only to learn the event was fraudulent, according to Shanghaiist, reveals Page Six.
This was supposed to be a two-day festival, a spin-off of the annual Djakarta Warehouse Project which takes place in Bali, Indonesia.
It seems that just a few days before it was set to take place, the company behind the Indonesian festival claimed that the use of their branding was not authorized.
‘The event rumored to take place in Shanghai on 17th & 18th of November 2018 is an unauthorized use of DWP trademark,’ DWP International said in a statement (via Buzzfeed). ‘DWP as a brand has no association with the event’ writes Page Six.
Nicki did not perform even if the festival appears to have gone on and fans were left extremely disappointed.
They have been reportedly waiting there more than two hours for her after having spent about $400.
Nicki did not accurately explain to her fans what happened. She just told them the following along with a video:
‘I’ll be back you guys for my real fans, in Shanghai, in China. I love you so much. And I’ll be back with a better partner this time, okay?’
She recently sent her love and support on social media to Tekashi 69 and his family.
