Rumor has it that the reason why Nicki Minaj was not in attendance at the American Music Awards this year was to avoid a run-in with Cardi B and Mariah Carey. Apparently, it was a last-minute decision.
A source tells HollywoodLife that ‘Nicki was intending to go to the AMAs at first, but then she realized that the night could have taken a negative turn if she was pitted against Cardi in any way while in the audience.’
The insider then explained that the same goes for Carey as they also had beef when they used to be American Idol judges in 2013.
They may not be feuding anymore but that doesn’t mean they are friends.
‘Nicki knew that it was a night when both Mariah and Cardi B were featured, so she thought that it was best if she just stayed away … Plus she did not want to be in the audience watching people she is not friendly with. She does not like to share the spotlight when it comes to people she has been at odds with. It just causes more of a frenzy,’ the insider went on.
While she decided last-minute she wouldn’t show up, it wasn’t a difficult decision to make because ‘She didn’t have any performing obligations.’
Therefore, ‘she feels she did not ruffle feathers when it came to the organizers of the show, because they did not have to fill in any space for her absence.’
As you probably know by now, Nicki and Cardi B had an explosive fight during NYFW at Bazaar’s ICONS Party back in September.
Afterwards, Cardi took to social media to accuse Minaj of dissing her baby and her parenting skills.
But Nicki denied it on Queen Radio, saying: ‘I would never talk about anyone’s child or parenting. I do not care about anyone’s parenting. I do not give a s**t and it is so crazy to me that people always need to make Onika the bad guy.’
