Since “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun Li” dropped, the return of Nicki Minaj has been triumphant. Radio Dj’s, fans, and celebrities alike have reacted positively to the Queen of Raps new singles.
Since Nicki has been absent a lot of things have been said about her that may not necessarily be true.
One of the rumors that have been spread was that Nicki doesn’t write her own songs.
There is almost no major artist who hasn’t bought a song from a writer. From Beyonce to Taylor Swift, A-listers often take other writers’ songs and make it their own.
Many outlets have reported that her ex-boyfriend of 12 years, Safaree Samuels was behind all of Minaj’s good tracks. It’s true that he helped her with some of her music but the Jamaican-born reality star has said himself that the rumors of him writing full pieces for his former boo are simply not true.
With “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun Li,” Onika is making it clear that she is behind her tunes. Not only did she write the lyrics, she also co-produced the actual music.
In an Instagram post, she shows her appreciation to people like Flex, Joe Budden, and Paul Rosenberg who all agree that the tunes are a smash hit.
The first lady of Young Money wrote a caption that read: “Wait hold on. Yo did hell freeze over? wait I wasn’t in NY so idk if this rlly happened. This COULD be a fake video. Were bombs dropped on #ChunLi? Did Flex say this record #HARD????? Did Joe say this record #HARD? Did Rosenberg say #QUEEN????? Man, all I’ll say is THANK YOU. Takes real niggaz to do this. I don’t mind criticism, but hating on smthn that’s clearly hard AF will only make you look less credible, miserable, & prove your issues are PERSONAL & unwarranted. So respect to everyone showin love.”
The rapper goes on to say: “I haven’t asked anyone to promote my music. Haven’t buttered anyone up behind the scenes, haven’t booked their show, reached out, NOTHING! I simply dropped music & hoped that the REAL ones (even ppl who’ve said negative things in the past) would acknowledge & give credit when/where it’s due. I wrote #BarbieTingz AND #ChungLi verses & HOOKS on BOTH; but I’m most proud that as a young black female rapper, I signed a producer and CO-Produced #BarbieTingz WITH him. S/O @jreidtheproducer. I do a lot of co producing & post production but that overall picture isn’t usually painted of me as an artist; so Id be lying if I said this doesn’t feel great.”
This comes after Miss Minaj had an epic last few days. Her recent interview went viral, her two singles have soared on the charts, and she attended Coachela with other A-Listers.
It seems like this will be the year of Minaj because the 35-year-old will be dropping an album and going on tour very soon.
