After a five-month engagement, Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi have split. The couple, whose reality TV romance was the focus of the most recent season of The Bachelor , didn’t seem to have much chance of success from the start. Rumors of problems between the two have been swirling since the post-finale live special After the Final Rose aired back in March. That was just moments after viewers watched Viall give Grimaldi a Neil Lane 3.75 carat diamond ring.

As soon as the show ended, fans of the show took to social media to criticize the pair’s lack of chemistry. Their interactions also seemed uncomfortable.

So, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the two have officially announced their break-up so soon.

'It's with a great amount of heartbreak for the both us as we have decided to end our engagement,” the pair told E! News in a joint statement.

“We gave this relationship our all and we are saddened that we did not get the fairytale ending we hoped for.”

Sources close to the couple claim that Grimaldi, 29, a native of Canada did not adjust well to life in Hollywood. Nick Viall, 36, went straight from The Bachelor to season 24 of Dancing with The Stars , meaning the focus remained on him. Grimaldi was in the background, while Viall capitalized on his fifteen minutes of fame.  Reportedly during Viall’s stint on Dancing , Grimaldi was not popular with cast or crew. They even claimed she was “hated.”

Things have seemed only to have gotten worse since Dancing ended. Eyewitness reports claim the couple “looked miserable” on a flight to Los Angeles, where they were returning from a friend’s wedding in Mexico.

On top of their supposed misery with each other, Viall was seen last month having lunch with former Bachelor in Paradise cast member Ashley Iaconetti.

Patti Stanger, the Million Dollar Matchmaker , has also put in her two cents on the break-up via US Magazine. She said the break-up was easy to predict.

Couples from The Bachelor and Bachelorette have rarely made it down the aisle. Only nine are still together after 33 seasons.
