Melissa Schuman, a former member of the 2000’s group, Dream, accused Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys of raping her. In a post on her blog, Melissa Explains It All; the 33-year-old girl claimed that the Backstreet Boys member raped her fifteen years ago.
Schuman wrote that she and her friend went to Carter’s apartment during a day off from a TV movie they were filming titled, The Hollow. Melissa said she was a virgin at the time and Carter brought her into the bathroom, and they started kissing.
However, even though the incident at first was consensual, it quickly turned into a forced interaction after Nick went against her wishes and performed oral sex on her and told her she had to do it back to him.
Melissa stated, “my thought was the only way to get out was to get him to finish what he had started.”
There was a mirror in the background where Melissa could see what was happening to her. She said, “watching myself be assaulted, forced to engage in an act against my will.”
At first, her manager seemed to confide in her. However, he revealed to her shortly after that if she came out with a story of sexual assault, her career would be ruined.
Melissa’s manager said she would “likely be buried in humiliation” and accused of being hungry for fame and notoriety. It would ruin her reputation in both the public and private spheres, as well as professionally.
Additionally, the former Dream member took to Twitter on the 20th of November and expressed gratitude to some of her fans for supporting her decision to speak out about the alleged incident.
Schuman thanked her viewers for listening to her story and for providing a “safe space” to be open and vulnerable. Melissa wrote, “I love you all.”
