NCIS is undergoing changes in Season 16. Apart from Vance’s disappearance last season, Abby’s (Pauley Perrette) departure will have lasting effects on all of the character’s moving forward. How will the team adjust to life without Abby this season?
Abby will be replaced by Kasie (Diona Reasonover) in Season 16. Although Kasie brings a lot to the NCIS team, it will take a while before everyone adjusts to Abby’s absence. In a recent interview, Reasonover talked about how her character will mesh with everyone else on the team, including McGee (Sean Murray) and Gibbs (Mark Harmon).
Reasonover revealed that her co-workers don’t give her too much gruff next season, but they do have trouble getting used to a new forensic scientist. This includes McGee calling her Abbs on accident.

“…it’s not about warming up to her as much as it’s a shift, it’s a new person,” Reasonover explained.
Perrette announced her shocking exit from the series earlier this year. The actress was a part of the show from the very beginning and her character had a somewhat odd exit at the end of last season as writers rushed to give Abby a proper sendoff.
According to Cinema Blend, Abby was not killed or definitively written off, which opens the door for a possible return sometime down the road.
This lack of closure could also be why the characters are having such a hard time with Abby’s departure, though it won’t take long before they adjust to the new team member.

While Perrette will no longer be a part of the show, the rest of the stars are returning to action in Season 16. This includes Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance, Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Emily Wickersham as Ellie Bishop, and Maria Bello as Jackie Sloane.
The season will feature 24 episodes.
Season 16 of NCIS premieres Sept. 25 on CBS.
