Nancy O’Dell has left Entertainment Tonight. The cohost announced she was exiting the TV show at the end of Friday’s episode with an emotional farewell message.
Viewers got quite the shock during Friday’s broadcast of ET. O’Dell, who has been with the show for nearly nine years, said goodbye. There was no indication the blonde beauty was planning to exit the entertainment magazine until she made her stunning announcement.

“Tonight, I’m excited to tell you about the start of a new chapter in my life. A new chapter for this small-town, grateful girl from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, who used to watch fellow Carolinian Leeza Gibbons and Mary Hart on Entertainment Tonight thinking, ‘Wow, what beautiful, powerful women and what a cool job they have!’ to now having that job for nine years and being a veteran host on the red carpet for almost 25 years,” O’Dell began her goodbye to viewers.
Before her time on ET, O’Dell spent years hosting Access Hollywood alongside Billy Bush.
Last week her longtime manager, John Ferriter, passed away. She took time at the end of her announcement to give him a special shout out.
She didn’t indicate his passing had an impact on her decision. O’Dell did mention in her message a friend recently suggested she make a “life-list” concerning her career.
“As I take on that list of things still to come, it means leaving this position, but it does not mean I am leaving the genre. I’ll be back, and it won’t be long. I’m going to enjoy some time off with the most wonderful gal in my life, my daughter because they grow up way too fast. She is always my priority, and then I’ll focus on my new project,” she explained.
Nancy O’Dell has exited Entertainment Tonight. Producers for the show praised her in a formal statement following her shocking departure announcement.

Been quite the emotional day. On the same day I had to say goodbye to my longtime friend/agent at his memorial, I said goodbye at @entertainmenttonight . But just as I know my friend will still be w/ me in spirit forever, I’ll never lose the family I’ve gained at #ET nor all the fabulous viewers whom I have a forever bond w/ from talking all things entertainment every night. On to my next chapter in life. #grateful and #excited Scroll for what I said on-air tonight. Thanks for the sweet hug @kevinfrazier ❤️ family #friends #ET #specialtimes #memories #workfamily
“We can’t thank Nancy enough for her dedication to keeping ET the gold standard in entertainment news, and we have no doubt she will continue to succeed in all future endeavors,” part of the executive producer’s statement read.
The entertainment news magazine business is going through quite the change. O’Dell is only the latest person to exit a show as host after a long period of time. Mario Lopez has jumped ship from Extra to Access Hollywood.
Ironically Billy Bush will replace Lopez this fall on Extra. He returns to the genre that made him famous three years after he was fired after distasteful audio of him and President Trump talking about women surfaced.
