Though the previous popoularity Anastacia had might have helped her get a place on the beloved TV show Strictly Come Dancing, now she is making the headlines again, but not in such a pleasant way. The 48-year-old singer underwent a double mastectomy back in 2013 after she received a breast cancer diagnose for the second time. During the training for the dance-off, she had to pull out because she has ripped open the scars she had. She decided to do so because she was afraid that otherwise she would have to go home and have some other surgeries.
According to the scans she had, there is no permanent damage, thankfully, but from her previous experience scarred skin can be really vulnerable to ruptures. Justine Hextall, who works as a consultant dermatologist at the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, explained that whenever a deep wound heals, the underlying muscles and the skin tissue never come back to their full strength.
Apparently the skin is less elastic and thus weaker, which makes it vulnerable to tearing, as it was the case when Anastacia wanted to dance and pushed herself to do more on the training. The specialist said that patients who want to get into physical effort should start gradually, and pay much attention to the skin stretching or feeling pain when they do a particular move or exercise.
If you are one of the women who is also bothered by scars on the body (and not only women have this issue), there are lots of things that can help. Botox injections, blood injections, stem cells, but also other modern treatments have proven to be effective when it comes to helping scars heal and look better. Moreover, some of the available treatments are giving the skin its elasticity back, which means you can dance or exercise as you wish.
