Mo'Nique Cries As She Recalls Finding Out How Much Whoopi Goldberg Earns On The View -- Find Out Why!
Mo'Nique is open about those who have wronged her in the entertainment industry and why she feels that it is so important to stand up for fair pay when it comes to being hired for her talents. The comedienne recently opened up about why she cries when she recalled finding out how much Whoopi Goldberg is making to star on The View.
Mo'Nique has been a hot topic ever since she called on black people to boycott Netflix for their lowball offer of $500,000 for a comedy special. With her talent and wrap sheet, the offer was an insult when you compare it to the $13 million Amy Schumer made and the $20 million Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle pocketed.
The actress has explained that not only was she fighting for pay equity for herself, but she was doing it for the black women that will come after her.
Since then, people are split on whose side to be on. Both Steve Harvey and Whoopi Goldberg chastised her for her actions.
While speaking to Comedy Hype, the 51-year-old opens up about how she feels about the amount that Whoopi makes on the talk show and what Goldberg told her about the future generation.
'Because Whoopi Goldberg told me the salary she makes from The View, and that hurt my feelings. You’ve been there for 10 years and you accept them paying you that? And you’re telling me, ‘Don’t worry about the little ones coming up?’ God damn if I ain’t gotta be worried about you too. Because you accept that salary, it makes it hard for me. And how hard do you think it’s gonna make for the one who ain’t here yet, because you accept that salary?'
Tears streamed down her face as she added: 'To stand in my sister’s dressing room, and she says to me, ‘You can’t be worried about the one coming up.’ What if Moms Mabley didn’t worry about you? What if those ones didn’t make it better for us? So, I tried not to take it personal, but it’s personal. Because these are the women I look to. So, I don’t want the little girl who’s not here yet… or a little girl down the street at the juice bar… I don’t want her to walk away and say, ‘That ain’t who I thought she was.'
Oddly enough, Whoopi is actually believed to be the highest paid View hostess earning around $5-$6 million a year.
