Modern Family is going a little dark this season. Creator Christopher Lloyd just teased that one of the main characters will be killed off in Season 10 in an attempt to address the issue of death. Which character might meet their end on ABC’s hit comedy?
With Modern Family heading into its 10th and final year, Lloyd felt like it would be weird if the family did not talk about death, a subject everyone has to deal with at some point in their life. The decision to kill off an important character, however, was not easy, and Lloyd admitted that dealing with these types of issues is difficult for a comedy series.
“We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television,” Lloyd explained.
Lloyd, of course, did not reveal which character will die in the coming season. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Modern Family creator only teased that the character is “significant” to the show. He also said that the death will be an emotional affair and that it will have a lasting effect on the future of the characters.
We have no idea which character will die, but it sounds like Season 10 will feature a major shift in the dynamics of the family.
Modern Family has been a staple on ABC over the past decade. The show’s contract with the network, however, is up after this season. ABC has not announced its plans to pick up the show for another year, but Lloyd and his team are confident that the show will play on past Season 10.
Modern Family stars Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Sarah Hyland, Jeremy Maguire, Nolan Gould, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, and Rico Rodriquez.
Season 10 of Modern Family premieres Sept. 26 on ABC.
