Michelle Williams has had a rough yet inspiring past year. The former Destiny Child’s member recently announced that she and her fiance, Chad Johnson, will be having a reality show on OWN.
Once the gospel artist revealed the news, fans gave their mixed reactions. Many were concerned that doing reality would be the demise of her future marriage and tarnish her public image.
That’s when Williams explained to her followers: “Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Chad and I are so excited to announce a partnership with @owntv in the premiere of our new show Chad Loves Michelle #AndILoveHimToo that we are also executive producers of! I know, I know “Don’t do it,” “Why in the world would you guys put yourselves out there?”This is an awesome, unique opportunity to show what God is doing! We mutually wanted to show our journey to marriage. We invite YOU on Saturdays starting November 3 at 9PM!!”
Considering that the couple is playing executive producer roles, they will be able to control much of what is shown to the audience which is a great advantage to have.
The announcement comes after Michelle’s rollercoaster year where she got engaged, performed with her former group members, and checked into a center to treat depression.
Michelle was of the few female public figures to be open about her mental health issues and was a catalyst to start a conversation about what could be done about it.
Her Instagram message read, in part: “Thank you ALL sooooooooooooooo much for every message of love and support sent! My family, friends and fiancé have been AWESOME! Sitting here reflecting on the past two weeks. I had no plans of what I was going through being public BUT now that it is I have a made an even BIGGER commitment to the mental health awareness area. So many people are suffering, hurting, hopeless, lost and don’t see a way out but there is. Depression sucks, but my faith in God and my commitment to doing the work to stay well is my way out!”
Do you think reality TV is a bad idea? Will you be watching her show?
