HBO hit Big Little Lies is no stranger to big-time movie stars on their show. With the likes of Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon spearheading that ship, the name recognition along with favorable word of mouth praise regarding the show made it one of HBO’s most impressive hits this last year.
So much so they decided to bring what was originally slated as a mini-series, back for a second season.
The show also did a tremendous job racking up nominations and wins during this awards season which may also lend itself to the decision to bring it back. Even more good news on the show’s front now as preeminent movie star queen Meryl Streep herself will be joining the cast for the season as a series regular.
She will play the Mary Louise Wright, mother of Perry White who played an integral role in Nicole Kidman’s character’s storyline in the first season.
Without revealing any spoilers, it’s safe to say that Mary Louise’s presence will send the ladies of Monterey into a bit of a tailspin.
Perry’s mother comes looking for answers and she seems to be wanting to be very involved with her grandchildren and what’s to come of their futures in light of the events that have previously taken place.
Meryl Streep will undoubtedly bring grit and a stunning portrayal to this role as the 3 time Oscar winner has just been named the most Academy nominated actress of all time with a whopping 21 nominations.
Streep’s thespian prowess can never be understated and she’ll surely bring every ounce of her talent to this powerhouse character.
Although they will likely be playing foes on our TV screens, Kidman and Streep are good friends and it looks like Kidman is excited to welcome Streep to the Big Little Lies family. Other additional characters have been confirmed much to TV fans delight, although no one other than Streep has been cast yet.
The powerhouse cast made up of Kidman and Witherspoon, alongside Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz are all coming back for the second season.
The second season is set to start filming in April but won’t actually air until sometime early 2019.
