Musician Melissa Etheridge found herself in hot water recently after border patrol stopped her at the United States and Canada intersection. The authorities nailed her for drug possession in August of this year.
According to a report from the publication, TMZ, the 56-year-old singer returned from the United States from Canada when agents of the Customs and Border Patrol stopped her bus in North Dakota.
After their dogs ran through the vehicle, they found marijuana oil. The publication stated that Etheridge told the police she uses it for medicinal purposes, more specifically, for cancer.
However, it is not legal in North Dakota according to TMZ. Allegedly, the authorities sent the crooner to jail where she posed for a mugshot with a smile from ear-to-ear. She pleaded guilty to the charges.
Fans know Etheridge as a passionate advocate of medical marijuana. In fact, she opened up to People earlier this year and stated she used the substance as a “holistic alternative” to pharmaceuticals when she underwent chemotherapy.
However, the singer found herself under scrutiny when Melissa revealed that she often smoked pot with her kids who are 20, and 18. Etheridge claimed, “It’s a very natural, end-of-the-day thing.”Since then, Melissa received criticism for “bad parenting,” but to her, that is merely fodder compared to the pertinent issues.
The real dilemma is getting the right treatment for patients in need. In the initial interview, she claimed the substance is “demonized, ” and the effect of the stigma is devastating. When referring to the accusation that she is a bad mother, she said, “my children are my priority. I live a very blessed life.” Melissa added that she is incredibly grateful to have such a good family and lifestyle.
