The wheels are in motion to end Megyn Kelly’s time on the Today show. Inside sources report that Kelly will leave her 9 a.m. segment when the current season wraps up in December. Kelly’s expected departure comes after her controversial comments about blackface earlier this week.
“She is expecting to leave the Today show at the end of the season in December,” an insider explained.
The source revealed that Kelly has been in negotiations with NBC about taking on a new role within the network. The talks reportedly started before the blackface scandal. Kelly wanted to leave the Today show because her segment did not allow for deep political coverage.

With the next presidential election about to kick into high gear, Kelly wanted to be in a position where she could cover the race to the fullest extent.
The blackface scandal, unfortunately, changed everything. The insider says that NBC is now questioning Kelly’s future on the network. The source dished that NBC executives are “not happy with Megyn” because of her controversial comments.
They also do not know how they are going to handle her exit from Today and where she goes from there.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Kelly got herself into hot water after commenting about the use of blackface on Halloween. During a discussion with Jenna Bush Hager, Melissa Rivers, and Jacob Soboroff, Kelly defended people who use blackface as part of their costume on Halloween, a stance that did not go over well with fans of the show.

Kelly issued two apologies for her comments this week. The Today host addressed the issue on the show and sent her colleagues at the studio an email apologizing for what she said. Some of her co-stars, however, are not ready to forgive. Craig Melvin and Al Roker condemned Kelly on their segment this week and said her apology was not good enough.
Megyn Kelly has not commented on the latest rumors surrounding her future on NBC.
