Megyn Kelly has been under serious fire for lashing out against Jane Fonda during a recent episode of her NBC morning TV show, and her tirade drew a lot of attention to her, although probably not the kind she was hoping for.
And while some people expressed their shock at the fact that something like this could even air on television, recent reports indicate that this might not have been coincidental.
According to some fresh rumors, Kelly was actually given the green light by unknown NBC executives to lash out against the iconic Hollywood star. Network bosses apparently saw that as an excellent opportunity to draw some extra attention to their programming, but they did not anticipate how far Kelly would actually go.
With that in mind, while the Peacock Network did reportedly allow Kelly to do what she did, they apparently expected her to be not quite as harsh and were taken by surprise by the way events unfolded on the set.
The situation is still developing, and it looks like Kelly will definitely not manage to escape unharmed, as she has already received a lot of negative attention as a result of her words.
Whether things could get even more serious for her is hard to tell, but it is not out of the question that she might suffer professionally if the attention on her becomes too much.
After all, even if network executives agree with her in some capacity, it would be impossible to ignore the public’s negative responses, and they would be pretty much forced to take action.
However, it is difficult to control someone with Kelly’s star power. NBC recruited her from the Fox News Channel with a $20 million contract.
A source spoke to Page Six and stated: “The problem is that nobody at NBC is controlling Megyn. They paid her more than $20 million to host the 9 a.m. show, and she has been given too much power. But the fact remains: You cannot say those things, or be so aggressive, on morning TV. Plus, Megyn already had trouble booking celebrities — so how is she ever going to book other stars if they disagree and she goes on air later and trashes them?”
Things could get messy for Kelly in the upcoming weeks.
