Because she is marrying Prince Harry on May 19th, Meghan Markle won’t be returning to the USA legal drama Suits for season eight. However, she shot two seasons of the show while she dated the red-headed royal, and her co-star Wendell Pierce has revealed that the cast used code words to help keep her romance quiet.
Pierce played Markle’s on-screen dad, and the two formed a special bond after working together for several years. He said they had a wonderful moment towards the end of her time on the show when they were alone in a room together, and he told her that her life was going to change, but no matter where she is he will always be her “loving fake father.”
Pierce went on to say that he didn’t pry into Markle’s love life, but when they did discuss her relationship with Prince Harry, they never said his name.
“We always talked about him in code really. You know, How you doing? Oh I’m going to London, coming from London, whatever,” said Pierce.
Tonight, Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle were honoured to meet wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who have overcome adversity and taken on remarkable sport and adventure challenges, at the annual #EndeavourAwards The Endeavour Fund gives these people the opportunity to rediscover their self-belief and fighting spirit through physical challenges, and is led by the Royal Foundation. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees for their incredible feats.
In addition to Markle’s departure, Suits will also be going through another major cast change – with Patrick J. Adams announcing that he will also be leaving the show after playing Mike Ross for more than 100 episodes.
Adams says that he and Markle did not discuss exiting the show at the same time, with a lot going unsaid. He added that because they were the youngest and most inexperienced of the cast, they were close and grew up together over the years.
He says there was a natural sense for both that their time on the show was coming to an end, and they both thoroughly enjoyed shooting their last few episodes together.
Even though it was unspoken, they both knew the other wouldn’t be coming back, and Adams says that made their final scenes even more special.
The USA network has announced that Katherine Heigl will replace Markle next season and will play Samantha Wheeler, a disruptive new partner at the law firm.
Heigl says she has watched the show from the beginning and feels lucky to be the newest cast member. Show creator Aaron Korsh said that he could not wait for Heigl to come play with the cast and crew.
The Emmy-winning Heigl left Grey’s Anatomy eight years ago to focus on her once hot film career. But things haven’t gone as planned, and she has only starred in a couple of short-lived TV series: Doubt on CBS and State of Affairs on NBC.
The final eight episodes of Suits season seven begin March 28th on USA.
The network has announced that Meghan Markle’s final episode will air on April 25th, and Psych star Dulé Hill will replace Adams next season.
