When Kensington Palace released Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement photos last fall, the future royal’s $78,000 Ralph & Russo Couture gown raised a lot of eyebrows. But, according to new reports, that is nothing compared to her wedding dress. Is Markle dishing out over half a million dollars for beauty and fashion on her big day?
A source close to Markle says the couple has doubled their wedding budget because of the big dress expense. In addition, the former actress is also spending over $160,000 on a honeymoon, which is her gift to Harry.
Markle has not yet revealed who is designing her wedding dress. But last month, bookies suspended bets that she would be following in the Duchess of Cambridge’s footsteps and choose an Alexander McQueen gown because a “flurry of activity” caused the odds to tumble to 16 to 1. That led to speculation that someone may have leaked the information.
Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen designed Kate Middleton’s intricate lace gown in 2011, which is rumored to have cost around $350,000. But, the identity of her designer wasn’t revealed until the day before the wedding, when eagle-eyed fans caught Burton entering the Duchess’ hotel.
Markle’s stylist and close friend Jessica Mulroney runs a bridal store in Toronto, and the rumor is that she is helping the bride choose the perfect designer and gown.
In a March 2016 interview, which was before she began her relationship with Harry, Markle said that her style is classic and simple with a modern twist, and she prefers wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic.
Markle also explained that she would not choose a dress like the Anne Barge gown her Suits character Rachel Zane wore in season five because that was not her personal style. She says that she is a lot more relaxed than her character, but it was fun playing dress up.
Today, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle attended the inaugural Royal Foundation Forum. The Royal Foundation unites people to help tackle society's biggest challenges. TRH and Ms. Markle discussed the inspiration behind The Royal Foundation, the issues that are close to their hearts, and their ambitions for the future. This was the first time The Royal Foundation has brought together people from across all of its programmes, including @invictusgames2018, @Heads_Together, @united4wildlife, #CoachCore & #EndeavourFund.
The details of her gown will likely be top secret until her wedding day, but that isn’t going to keep people from making predictions.
Some believe it could be Ralph & Russo, just like her engagement gown, while others are going with Canadian designer Jason Wu.
Other possibilities include Misha Nonoo, Antonio Berardi, Roland Mouret, and Victoria Beckham.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will exchange vows on May 19th at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, the same place where Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles said “I do” back in 2005.
