Kensington Palace announced this week that Princess Eugenie is engaged to Jack Brooksbank, and the couple is planning to marry this fall at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle – the same venue that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose for their May nuptials. Princess Eugenie choosing the same location for her wedding won’t make things awkward for Prince Harry and Markle, but some of her wedding guests could make the actress uncomfortable.
According to the UK’s Daily Star, Eugenie is still good friends with some of Harry’s ex-girlfriends, and she may even pick Cressida Bonas to be one of her bridesmaids.
Eugenie and her sister, Beatrice, originally set up their cousin with Bonas, and the model dated Harry for two years until they split in 2014. The breakup came amid speculation that she was uncomfortable with being in the international spotlight.
Eugenie and Bonas remain close, and this past November they attended a Vogue party together in London.
In recent years, cameras have also captured Eugenie with Chelsy Davy at several different society events. Harry and Davy had an on-again-off-again relationship from 2004 to 2011, and there were once rumors that the two were engaged.
Eugenie and Brooksbank have been together for nearly seven years after meeting on a ski trip in Switzerland back in 2010. He finally popped the question earlier this month in Nicaragua.
Another awkward moment could take place because Eugenie’s mother – Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York – may come face-to-face with Prince Philip. Ferguson earned herself an exit from the royal family back in 1992 after paparazzi caught her sunbathing topless while her financial advisor sucked her toes.
The images quickly surfaced in the media, and the Windsor’s came across them in the morning papers as they had their breakfast. The pics resulted in a crumbling relationship between Ferguson and her in-laws, and in particular Prince Philip.
Ferguson and Prince Andrew are now divorced, but she has spent some short breaks with the Queen, her ex-husband, and her daughters over the years, however, it was presumably when the Duke of Edinburgh wasn’t around.
Prince William and Kate Middleton didn’t invite her to their wedding, and she admitted that it was difficult for her to miss out on that day because she wanted to be there with her girls. It was also hard for Ferguson because the last bride to walk down the aisle at Westminster Abbey was her.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will get married on May 19, 2018, at Windsor Castle.
