In a brand new interview, McKayla Maroney opened up more about the abuse she has suffered at the hands of Dr. Larry Nassar. The former Olympian’s story is just a terrifying nightmare!
The trauma he has caused his more than 150 victims continues to come to light even as he spends the rest of his life in prison.
McKayla revealed when she realized his actions were not part of a typical medical exam.
Apparently, back in 2011, when she was only 15, Nassar sexually assaulted her in a Tokyo hotel room.
Maroney explained that at the time, she was naked and the doctor was on top of her.
‘It was very hard for me to acknowledge the fact that…this was not treatment. I was being abused. I was bawling, naked on a bed, him on top of me, like fingering me. I thought I was going to die. I did not feel like it was him anymore. It was this other thing that took over. The dark part of him,’ the 22-year-old recalled.
The girl felt like she needed to talk to someone about what had happened to her the very next day but just didn’t know how.
‘I remember waking up the next day and wanting to tell someone — and hoping that someone would see it in my eyes that something bad just happened to me, that they would ask me. I just said, ‘Last night, it was like Larry was fingering me,’ she mentioned it to her teammates.
‘I said this loud,’ she added, but none of the gymnasts listened to her.
The evil of what took place has made the gold-medalist wonder if she should have even pursued this career.
‘I at times question if my gymnastics career was even worth it because of the stuff I am dealing with now, because sometimes you are just left in the dust. You have to pick up the pieces of your life. This has been the hardest part for me, but it is always three steps forward, two steps back… He told me he was going to do a check-up on me. That was the first day I was abused.’
