Mayim Bialik defended herself in a new interview and made it very clear that it was never her intention to blame the victims of sexual harassment with her previous statement. The Big Bang Theory actress received a lot of backlash after she said she is always careful about what she wears in order to avoid any unwanted advances while at work on set.
‘I still make choices every day as a 41-year-old actress that I think of as self-protecting and wise. I have decided that my sexual self’s best reserved for private situations with those I’m most intimate with. I dress modestly. I do not act flirtatiously with men as a policy,’ Bialik said.
Today, the actress finally addressed her words, noting that there is indeed no way you can really avoid rape, not even by changing the way you dress or behave.
Her remarks were apparently only in reference to the ‘Hollywood culture’ that she experienced first hand.
‘I wasn’t speaking about assault and rape in general.’
Bialik went on to further detail her initial statement, saying that the way she chooses to dress herself is just her choice and that it sometimes may be perceived as going against the ‘way women are encouraged to present themselves.’
Bialik argued that even though dressing modestly doesn’t make her immune to sexual assault, it gives her ‘a feeling of comfort and a layer protection.’
Finally, the actress apologized to anyone that was hurt by her comments.
