Mayans MC is crushing the ratings. The premiere of Kurt Sutter’s new Sons of Anarchy spin-off brought home the highest Nielsen ratings this year, attracting over 6.8 million viewers. Accounting for delayed viewing, that number is likely to increase in coming weeks, making Mayans MC FX’s official new hit.
In addition to being this year’s most popular show, Mayans MC also became the highest rated show in the adult’s category (18-49) since early 2016. According to Entertainment Weekly, the first episode of Mayans MC also outperformed the debut of Sons of Anarchy by 46 percent for adults and 64 percent in general audience.

The series was also the network’s highest rated since Ryan Murphy’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story aired two years ago.
With Mayans MC set to become a major hit, JD Pardo recently opened up about his character, EZ Reyes, and what it’s like working with Sutter. Pardo explained how Sutter wanted a character who was smart but not a life-long criminal. The Sons of Anarchy creator then wanted to introduce that character to the criminal world and see how he would adapt.
For Pardo, EZ learned the most about being a criminal when he served time behind bats.
“[After] prison, you’re going to look at everything differently. You’re going to look at people differently,” he explained.
While EZ will spend a lot of time adjusting to his new life, Pardo assured fans that he will get more charismatic as the show moves forward. Not only will we see more of a personality from EZ, but he will also take a larger leadership role in the club.
But for now, EZ is content with staying in his shell and quietly learning the ropes.
New episodes of Mayans MC air Tuesday nights on FX.
