The giving season is upon us and it looks like actor Matthew McConaughey is getting a head start. To celebrate his 48th birthday, the actor visited the Wild Turkey Distillery and delivered a whopping 4,500 turkeys to families in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
McConaughey, along with 250 other volunteers, spent the better part of the day giving back to a community that may not have had a turkey this year.
The Oscar winner made a speech where he thanked all the volunteers for showing up and giving up their Saturday to help those in need.
He also thanked Butterball for donating the massage amount of turkeys. He spoke to how essential the idea of gratitude is and that these type of acts should be praised and exhibited all throughout the year.
He explained: “We believe in our family that the more you’re thankful for, the more you’re going to create in your life to be thankful for.”
McConaughey and wife, Camilla Alves, have three children together. It’s lovely that the actor and his wife are teaching these invaluable lessons to their children, even if they were born into a very well off, economically sound environment. Giving back is something that should be celebrated and shown great importance.
McConaughey has a longstanding relationship with the whiskey brand as he wrote, directed and starred in a commercial series for the brand last year. There was also a newer commercial that was released just a couple of months ago that the star also had his hand in producing.
The actor has had a stellar couple of years, with his acting being critically acclaimed in recent projects such as True Detective, Gold, Dallas Buyer’s Club and Interstellar. He won the coveted best actor Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyer’s Club where he seamlessly plays a passionate, emaciated sufferer of AIDS who refuses to just wait to die.
The actor has several new projects in the works and also has started to write and produce more and more when he isn’t in front of the camera.
