All hail Lucifer as the popular Fox series that was suddenly canceled to the dismay of fans has been saved. Netflix responded to requests to keep the program alive and will pick up the fourth season. Fans (also known as Lucifans) are ecstatic and shouts of Hallelujah have been heard on various social media networks. A large campaign went viral with celebrities and audience members alike trying to save the show using the hashtags #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer.
While fans are thrilled about the news, there isn’t much information that’s been released. For instance, it’s too early to know exactly who is returning, whether there will be new castmembers to the series, and how many episodes season four will consist of.
Based upon the DC Entertainment comic, Tom Ellis plays Lucifer Morningstar, the devil who gets tired of hell and comes to L.A. While there he opens a club, executes revenge on people he should torture and falls in love with detective Chloe Decker portrayed by Lauren German. The series was originally produced by Aggressive Mediocrity.
Lucifer’s return is another in a growing trend of fans saving canceled programs. Lucifer was canceled in May 2018. The show is based on characters created by Neil Gaiman.
Shortly before Fox canceled Lucifer they canceled the popular show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, NBC picked it up.

Though many people are thrilled Lucifer has been picked up some have expressed surprise that it was Netflix that saved the show from certain death and not Fox.
Streaming media providers have changed the way viewers watch television programs. While networks depend and count on the number of live viewers when determining whether to keep or cancel a program, streaming media network’s decisions are a bit lax.
Though Lucifer ended on Fox with less than stellar ratings, it had a huge fan base that went to bat for the show. #SaveLucifer dominated search trends for weeks and millions of people demanded their show be saved.
Many people have theorized that Fox has been on a canceling spree since ratings have dropped on some of their top programs.
Some also view Fox’s cancellation of American Idol as a big mistake since ABC revived what was once Fox’s most-watched series.
