Lena Dunham is incredibly “grateful” for the outpouring of support following the news of her hysterectomy. Celebrity Insider reported last week that the Girls star had to undergo an operation because of intense pain caused by endometriosis.
In an interview with Vogue Magazine, the HBO star said she went under the knife to remove her uterus and cervix after ten years of constant pain while dealing with the illness.
The disease attacks the immune system as well as the reproductive system, making it an incredibly unpleasant experience. On Friday, Lena revealed she had received a plethora of messages from women suffering the same disease.
In an Instagram post which we have for you below, the writer revealed more than 60 million women in America today are fighting for their well-being following hysterectomy surgeries.
Your body failing you is a loss that’s hard to explain and yet the amount of messages I’ve gotten from women in a similar predicament has been so overwhelming, loving and heartening. More than 60 million women in America are living with hysterectomies and those of you who’ve shared your plight and perseverance make me feel so honored to be in your company. Thank you to the village of women who took care of me through this entire process. I have a broken heart and I hear those don’t mend overnight, but we are linked forever by this experience and our refusal to let it hold any of us back from even the grandest dreams.
She added, “we are linked forever by this experience and our refusal to let it hold any of us back from even the grandest dreams.” Reportedly, Lena’s latest operation is her ninth surgery.
According to Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is a disease characterized mostly by the growth of abnormal tissue just outside the uterus. Last year, the Girls star posted a picture of herself in a hospital bed following her fifth procedure.
The writer told Vogue that the pain was “unbearable” at times and attempted to treat it with so many different things including, “pelvic-floor therapy, color therapy, acupuncture, yoga, pain therapy, and massage therapy.”
However, nothing ever worked, prompting her to undertake more severe methods. In November, Dunham demanded her doctors to do something about the pain.
We wish Lena the best of luck on the rest of her journey. As you may know, the star recently broke up with her boyfriend, Jack Antonoff, a relationship her friends supposedly did not like.
