David Lynch, possibly one of the most iconic directors and filmmakers in the history of cinema, made some surprising comments about Donald Trump the other day. According to the director, Donald may go down in history as one of the most important presidents of our era.
Lynch – who’s created movies like Twin Peaks, The Elephant Man, Mulholland Drive, and many other classics – said to reporters from The Guardian that Trump’s rise shows the nature of the political system, and how it needs to undergo changes.
Lynch explained that he has “disrupted the thing so much,” and no one, thus far, has been able to counter and take him down in an “intelligent way.”
According to the director, Trump has paved the way and opened up space for political outsiders to run for the presidency. It’s no longer this dichotomous system where only a particular kind of person can win.
In David’s view, Trump has shown political leaders are incompetent and incapable of moving things forward in a productive manner. His election is a symptom of a larger and systemic problem in the political system, one that has reared its head ever since Trump began his campaign near the beginning of 2016.
During the same interview, Lynch said he “didn’t remember” who he voted for during the 2016 presidential election, but he did vote for Senator Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary.
However, in case you didn’t hear, the Democratic National Convention rigged the primaries so that Hillary would be the one to become the primary nominee, something Bernie Sanders said he was suspicious of.
Nevertheless, during Lynch’s final comments in the interview, he explained, “I’m not really a political person, but I really like the freedom to do what you want to do.”
As you may know, in recent weeks, Trump’s administration has taken credit for the flourishing of the US economy. According to the New York Times, Trump’s support among Republicans hovers around 90%.
