Kevin Can Wait’s season premiere last week only briefly addressed the sudden absence of Donna, Kevin James’ character’s wife. News of Donna’s exit, played by Erinn Hayes, started going around back in June when the network announced that she’d get killed off sometime between the first and the second season.
In addition, it was also stated that Leah Remini would get to be a regular on season two.
The reactions to the news and to the way the character’s death was handled by just mentioning it a few times throughout the first episode of the second season were mixed but mostly negative.
Now, Remini decided to defend the show’s storyline by talking about it on social media.
The actress replied honestly but also with some humor to critical tweets from disgruntled audience members.
One hater wrote that they loved the first season but is really disappointed with season two and hopes for the show to fail now.
‘How do you really feel? I feel like you are sugar coating it,’ Remini responded sarcastically.
Another user even went so far as to call her ‘classless’ for apparently ousting Hayes, to which Remini had one simple answer – ‘real things are going on in the world.”
The star replied to some of the people who were wondering how Donna passed away, saying she had no idea as she was not part of the production but admitted that it was a good question – one that will have to be addressed in the near future.
When some commented that it was a good think Hayes left the show, Remini defended her former co-star by saying: ‘She’s lovely and funny. And I was looking forward to working with her again. She’s on another show on Amazon. So blessings to us all.’
