Leah Messer struggled with a lot when it comes to her mental health which is why she is using her past experience with depression to teach her daughters self-love. The Teen Mom star got candid about dealing with low confidence as well as contemplating suicide while on the Life Reboot Podcast with Leah Messer, Lindsey Rielly, and Brian Scott.
‘I had high expectations of who I was supposed to be as a mother, a wife, person and I… just never reached them,’ Leah revealed.
But she fought hard and managed to get herself out of that dark spot, realizing that ‘life is worth living’ after all.
How did she do that? Well, according to her, through the power of words!
Leah shared that she got motivational messages printed and hung on her mirror so she was able to read them every day.
‘It’s like I had to train my mind to know that I am loved, I’m confident, I’m worthy and until I said that repeatedly to myself and … it just did wonders,’ she explained.
Furthermore, Leah also started using the same method with her three daughters, Aliannah, Aleeah, and Asalynn.
‘Even for my girls, when they started school this year, they knew… Addie wrote on the chalkboard, she was like… ‘I’m happy because I have a family that loves me and she even put like why and blessed.’
This inspirational method, as simple as it may seem, really helped the Teen Mom deal with the very sad news of Ali being diagnosed with an incurable form on muscular dystrophy.
‘I cried, oh my gosh, it was unbearable. But at that moment I realized that she’s an incredible little girl that is going to do incredible things in her life no matter what she has, no matter what she goes through.’
Messer made it very clear that her pain has made her stronger and so will her daughter.
‘Today I would say I’m kind, I’m loving, I’m confident, I’m courageous, I’m strong.’
