Laura Dern Talks about Carrie Fisher’s Extraordinary Life and Legacy

Laura Dern is definitely not going to reveal anything that concerns her role in Star Wars: Episode VIII, leaving the fans guessing and restless to see the upcoming movie as soon as possible.

However, despite her sworn secrecy on the matter of her character and the plot of the film, she has no problem talking about the amazing life and legacy of the iconic Princess Leia and the one who gave her life – Carrie Fisher.

On Saturday, Dern decided to speak about Fisher to ET’s Nischelle Turner at Elle’s Women in Television event at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. The actress talked fondly about the late Carrie Fisher, saying that the Star Wars franchise was “in her heart and her soul.”

“I don’t know any of us who didn’t play Princess Leia for a Halloween, or in our life,” said Dern who recalled seeing the movie in 1977 as a young girl.  “What an incredible gift to witness that whole legacy.”

Early last year, Laura Dern achieved her dream and joined the Episode VIII cast. Although she remained silent about the plot or characters she mentioned that she is “having the time of my life” filming for the iconic franchise.

Fortunately, Carrie Fisher was able to finish filming for the upcoming movie before her death, making this her last on-screen appearance.

Although both actresses grew up as daughters of Hollywood icons, according to Dern, Fisher built her own extraordinary path.

“We put a lot of focus currently on what it is to be a female icon, what it is to use your voice, what it is to be comfortable in your own skin. She has always been one of the most extraordinary beacons, an original screen icon.”

Laura Dern was one of the first people to post a tribute for the regretted actress, writing on Twitter”

“Heartbreaking. Devastating. The most prolific, hilarious, and brilliant writer and thinker...and heroic icon. Gorgeous daughter, sister, and mother.”
