Kobe Bryant recently sat down with the Los Angeles Times, where he spoke about Kawhi Leonard, basketball, but mainly about the apples of his eyes — his daughters, Natalia, Gianna, Bianka Bella, and baby Capri Kobe.
When asked why did Leonard turned down the Lakers for the Clippers, and the retired legend said he thinks LeBron James had something to do with it.
He had this explanation: “I’m sure Kawhi wants to take the challenge of winning independent of playing with LeBron. Maybe that was the same for P.G. I think they relish the challenge of taking on something new. I don’t think it was a slight at the Lakers. It was more about circumstances and what was already here in L.A. and on the Lakers, and they wanted to take the challenge of building something new.”
Bryant went on to reassure Lakers fans by saying: “But the Lakers did OK. I saw a lot of Lakers fans were very disappointed, and rightfully so, that they didn’t get Kawhi. But you did get Anthony Davis. The Lakers have two freaks of nature. They’re going to be fine. It’s a hell of a time to be in L.A.”
Leonard, of the L.A. Clippers, is facing a difficult situation in his own family, as recent reports indicate that his sister has been charged with the murder and robbing of an elderly woman, who was reportedly 84 at the time of the attack.
The basketball player’s sister reportedly followed the old woman into a bathroom, where she beat her down and stole her purse, which had around $1,000 in it, according to official reports.
She was subsequently arrested on September 3. The victim of the assault was initially hospitalized but died from her injuries on September 4.
Leonard is trying to distance himself from both his sister and the situation as a whole and has not offered any comments on what happened.
His aunt has confirmed to the press that the man was not responsible for the attack in any way, and was not involved with his sister’s actions.
The attacker is currently held without bail, due to concerns that her family is wealthy enough to bail her out and take her out of town before she could be tried properly.
There were reportedly additional concerns that she might hurt someone else if she was released on bail.
It is not clear what provoked the attack and whether the woman had any violent history beforehand. Still, many have been heavily critical of the situation and have condemned the woman’s actions deeply.
