The Riverdale star opened up about his onscreen father, the regretted, Luke Perry. KJ Apa, just like many others who had known and loved him, is still mourning the experienced actor’s loss.
While on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Apa, who portrays Archie Andrews, got candid about the type of relationship he used to have with his co-star who played his dad.
The 21 year old told the host that ‘Luke is the kind of person who did everything he can to make whoever you are—no matter how big or how small—feel comfortable and feel welcome. It is hard to put into words how that makes me feel.’
As you know, Perry tragically passed away on March 4 after suffering a severe stroke.
He went into a coma and sadly never woke up again, dying days later.
Apa went on to remember him some more, saying that ‘It is not every day that you come across a guy like Luke.’
The young actor got choked up more than once while talking to Fallon about him, even more so while recalling how they had a father-son relationship off screen as well, not just in front of the cameras.
‘We had a really close relationship. He would call my parents every week and just keep them updated on how I am doing. If I had a cold or something he would say, ‘I took some Gatorade to his apartment the other day.’’
Apparently, Perry and his father would ‘always’ text.
Getting more emotional, Apa added that ‘He made such a huge effort from the beginning. I wish I could be like that.’
