Kesha States She's 'Reclaiming' Her Joy In Life Following Dr. Luke Legal Battle
During a new conversation with the Wall Street Journal, Kesha revealed how she's fighting to reclaim her sense of joy and happiness following her legal dispute with Dr. Luke.
The 32-year-old singer-songwriter shared thoughts on her new record, High Road, explaining that she didn't want to be stereotyped as an emotional artist after the release of her somber record, Rainbow.
The 32-year-old "Tonight" singer shared that her new record was about "reclaiming (her) happiness and (her) voice," as well as every other area of her life. The star claimed she didn't want to be categorized as a victim, or as a product of the experiences she had with Dr. Luke.
Kesha noted it was important for her not to be "stuck and pigeonholed" because of just one challenge in her life. As fans of the singer know, she and Dr. Luke, née Lukasz Gottwald, have been fighting in a legal battle since 2014.
The star sued Dr. Luke for sexual assault, battery, emotional abuse, and sexual harassment, among other transgressions. Additionally, she accused him of drugging and raping her in 2005 and in 2008.
Back in 2016, Rolling Stone Magazine reported that a New York judge sided with Sony Records and Dr. Luke. The outlet claimed Kesha had sued Dr. Luke for several types of abuse, including verbal, physical, sexual, and emotional.
Luke's team claims Kesha filed a suit to relieve herself of her contracts with the record label and obligation to work with the producer. The first major decision came on the 19th of February when a judge denied a court injunction which would have permitted Kesha to start recording new music.
When Kesha's suit was first revealed, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Pink, all sided with the star and expressed their support for her on social media. Kelly Clarkson did as well.
Among the allegations, included one claim from Kesha's mother, who accused Dr. Luke of telling Kesha that she looked like a refrigerator and needed to lose weight. In 2014, Dr. Luke countersued, accusing Kesha of defamation and breach of contract.
In 2016, the judge presiding over the case dismissed Kesha's claims, stating that many of her allegations didn't fit the charge.
