Kelly Ripa has sent her daughter, Lola, to college and, just like any other parent in her situation, she had some things on her mind. However, her main worry was not that she would not get to see her nearly as much as she’d want to, but the opposite!
It’s no secret that parents often have a lot of anxiety when time comes for their young ones to leave the nest.
The same cannot be said about Kelly Ripa.
The TV personality fears that she’ll see Lola too much despite the fact that the teen moved out of the family home to start college.
As you may know, Kelly and her husband, Mark Consuelos, live in New York City and their daughter is a freshman at New York University.
While a guest on ‘On Air With Ryan Seacrest,’ Ripa shared her unusual concern: ‘College is where you start to establish yourself as an independent person. When you send your child away to college, if they stay sort of local, you get all of the hassle of sending them away to college and none of the sympathy from your friends.’
‘Your friends go, ‘Oh, at least she is nearby,’ and I go, ‘Yeah, but that is not good.’ Because if she ever feels homesick, I have to say to her, ‘No, you cannot come home. You have to just work it out.’ I was so desperate to get any of the kids to go to school on the West Coast just because I want to visit the West Coast. I want to have Thanksgiving on the West Coast!’ she went on to explain.
The mother also revealed that she discussed these worries with her daughter, telling Lola that the main reason she did not really want her to go to college so close to home was that she did not want her to use it like it’s her home!
