Kelly Clarkson Explains Why She Chose 'The Voice' And Not 'American Idol'
The singer explained why she chose to take the NBC gig and snub American Idol despite the fact that she was discovered on the latter. Apparently, her choice came down to family. ‘Like, my husband [Brandon Blackstock] manages Blake [Shelton] so we are all in one place, and it is going to be good. And I'm excited, ya'll!’ the singer explained.
Kelly also added that there are no hard feelings between her and Ryan Seacrest, who is set to return to American Idol as a host.
She did admit that when she had to interview Seacrest recently, it felt really weird to be on rival networks, but they eventually ‘had a good laugh about it.’
Clarkson went on to say that she will be cheering on fellow American Idol star Jennifer Hudson as she makes her coach debut on The Voice.
In addition, she mentioned that she and Hudson as former contestants on a singing competition have a different perspective when it comes to judging and that is an asset.
As for her win on American Idol in 2002, she revealed that she wanted to win the second place instead just so that she wouldn’t have to shoot the film From Justin to Kelly.
Sure enough, she hated it and cried on set every day.
Nowadays, Clarkson still jokes about it, saying that her nanny loves it but that she warned her never to show the movie to her kid or she’ll get fired.
Are you glad Kelly Clarkson will be joining The Voice or do you think she should have stayed loyal to American Idol?
