And the drama keeps coming on NBC thanks to Kathie Lee Gifford and her former drinking buddy and co-host, Hoda Kotb.
Ever since Matt Lauer was kicked out from the Today show after being accused of sexual assault by several women, the rumor mill has been going wild about his replacement.
Would it be Megyn Kelly or Kotb or would they call Tamron Hall back to the show?
The chatter stopped last week after it was confirmed that Kotb would be taking Lauer’s empty seat next to Savannah Guthrie.
Now that Kotb has left Gifford, she is eager to pick her new co-chair, and the network has no plans to let her do so because they fear she will select a “friend” who is not ready for primetime.
A source spoke to Radar Online saying: “The biggest fear amongst staffers is that Kathie Lee will want to pick the person for Hoda’s replacement. She loves Craig and Regis, but both are not right.”
Andy Cohen seems to be on top of Gifford’s list.
The insider added: “Ambitious Andy is already buzzing around, but they have zero chemistry together, and he is annoying. A little Andy goes a long way. Kathie Lee is a great talent but shouldn’t be allowed to pick her co-host. She will pick a pal or someone she likes rather than the right talent.”
Meanwhile, Lauer is already trying to land another TV gig against the advice of his lawyers.
According to Hollywood Life: “Matt is quickly becoming bored with his new suburban routine, and he is already thinking about making a comeback. He is struggling with life after getting fired from NBC. And he is having a hard time letting go of the high-profile lifestyle he has known for over 20 years. He misses the spotlight, and while he accepted his new position in life as a normal citizen and stay-at-home dad, he is now reconsidering a future comeback.”
The person added: “His close advisors and lawyers have cautioned against seeking another network gig and warned him that it is too soon and no one will touch him. But Matt is determined to try to regain a seat on morning TV.”
Who should replace Kotb?
